ABOUT US…
“Voyage marked by changes of fortune.”
Odissea is an artful experience meant to be worn as a reflexion of a kind of subtle beauty. Our pieces are crafted with the intention of enhancing details, shapes and colors from the world around us. Odissea was born in the Rockaways -the strong and indistinct combination of the ocean and a lost wandering soul made meaning to the brand. The ever changing expression of the natural shells sparked its course representing change as a vehicle for beauty. This is Odissea: a voyage marked by changes of fortune.
Nathalie Martinez is a born and raised Mexican artist. Her involvment with different branches of art, such as photography, painting, craftsmanship make her aesthetic very unique and ephemeral. Her keen eye for beauty makes her work complex and liberating, exposing the true nature of freedom and introspection in a beautiful way.
Currently all of our pieces are crafted in Taxco, Mexico and CDMX where we work with artisans who’s craft brings to life Nathalie’s designs with their own goldsmithing techniques passed from generations to generations.
HAND MADE IN TAXCO, MEXICO
Our jewelry is hand-made in Taxco. This small town in Guerrero, Mexico was once a very Cosmopolitan destination in the 50’s given that William Spratling - a visionary New York silver designer - established in Taxco during the 30’s to pursue his craft, later becoming one of the world’s most influential silver houses at the time.
At Odissea we strive to contribute to design with an ethical, appreciative perspective, and this is why when looking into where to produce Taxco seemed the right place. The history this town that once was very powerful seemed fascinating, we wanted to know more and re-live what once Spratling had done. When looking for people to work with it was very sad to see that this craft is only practiced by very few people now, as the younger generations look for better paying jobs and seek bigger opportunities. This made Odissea decide that wanted to invest in a long term project, re-connecting the younger generations to crafts that are being lost each year by the second.
We currently have a small workshop of 5 artisans who make all of our pieces by hand, one by one. We want to ensure the best quality but also the importance we give to each and every single piece, the appropriate time and dedication, at the end it is a craft.
Thank you for your support, this means the world to us 🤍
